In the event of a major spill or accidental release of a hazardous material (including biohazards, chemicals and radioactive materials) the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) is to be contacted at (404)727-5688. EHSO will remove the material unless the laboratory staff has been specifically trained in clean up procedures. Please provide the following information: identity of the material, amount released, location of release.
If there is an ongoing threat of injury or emergency from the spill or hazard, contact the Emory University Police at 911 or 404-727-8005
SECURE THE AREA, EVACUATE PERSONNEL FROM THE IMMEDIATE AREA TO AVOID EXPOSURE.
In the event of an injury, contact the Emory University Police (911 or 404-727-8005) and seek immediate medical attention at Employee Health or the Emergency Department of Emory University Hospital. If possible provide an MSDS for the hazardous material to medical care provider. EHSO will assess the hazard and ensure that appropriate actions for containment, clean-up, and disposal are implemented.
